Whether you’re enrolling in coverage or choosing to waive it, this page walks you through what to know and how to get started.
Enroll/Waive NowYou must complete your enrollment online on the Enrollment/Waiver Portal during the enrollment/waiver period. To enroll mid-year because you have a qualifying life event (e.g., loss of coverage, marriage, or birth of a child), please email hrbenefits@caltech.edu. You have 60 days from a qualifying life event to make changes to your coverage.
Please note: If you don’t submit a waiver during the enrollment/waiver period, you will be automatically enrolled in the Caltech student medical and dental plans for the academic year. If you don’t actively enroll in vision coverage, you will not receive vision insurance through Caltech. Re-enrollment in the student vision plan is not automatic; you must elect it each year.
Important: If you are a newly registered student that starts in the Winter, Spring, or Summer term, you must take the same action requirements (actively waive medical/dental and/or enroll in vision) within 30 days of receiving notification from Human Resources. Please contact hrbenefits@caltech.edu to enroll.
Coverage is Required: All registered students must have medical and dental insurance – either Caltech insurance or other insurance that meets Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC).
Eligibility
If you’re a registered Caltech undergraduate or graduate student, you’re eligible for Caltech student medical, dental, and vision insurance.
If you are enrolled in a non-degree program with the Graduate office, you may be eligible for insurance.
For an additional charge, you may also enroll your spouse or California state registered domestic partner and eligible dependent children.
